About Rebecca
Rebecca is a director, lecturer and practitioner-researcher. She holds a PhD in European Theatre Practices from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London and an MA from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and Kings College London. Her research explores pedagogical approaches to working with actors in postdramatic and postmodern theatre-making, drawing inspiration from Stanislavskian actor-training concepts.
She has more than ten years experience of working with undergraduate and postgraduate students in university and conservatoire settings. She works regularly at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and Rose Bruford College as a visiting lecturer/professional.
As a theatre-maker, Rebecca’s focus is on devising from text. Her approach is collaborative and ensemble-led. Her work is grounded in a rigorous approach to text, a radical and interdisciplinary approach to staging, and a commitment to liveness and truth in performance.
She is a founding member of performance collective, this is not a test, who make taboo-breaking work exploring experiences of marginalisation. Their radical reinterpretations of the dramatic canon combine a Stanislavskian approach to the actor’s work with clowning, live improvisation, stand-up techniques, new media and a Riot Grrrl aesthetic.
